Food Hedz Catering’s award-winning Executive Chef David Welch discovered his love of food at an early age. When he was just 17, he left his home in Iowa and moved to Summit County so he could ski, but it was when he was hired as a night sous chef at the upscale Garden Room at Keystone Resort that he really discovered his life’s passion – cooking.
Over the years, Chef David worked his way up the ranks, rotating among high-scale restaurants in Summit and Eagle counties and learning the discipline of making everything from scratch. His hard work paid off when he returned to Keystone Ranch where he earned the honor of being named Zagat’s #1 chef in Colorado three years in a row. He was also voted “Chef of the Year” by the Colorado Hotel and Lodging Association and Colorado Mountain College culinary school and was nominated by his peers to be included in Best Chefs America, the ultimate guide to the most talented and respected chefs in the United States for 6 years running.
After decades of cooking behind double doors, and nine years as Executive Chef at Keystone Ranch, Chef Welch decided to open his own restaurant, Food Hedz World Café, with his wife Patti. He placed himself in an open café where his customers could tell him exactly how they wanted their entrees prepared.
Food Hedz Catering quickly blossomed out of the overwhelming success of this brick and mortar location. Now, Chef David and Patti focus exclusively on catering events at private homes and venues throughout Summit County so visitors and locals alike can experience David’s fresh, innovative "taste of the world" cuisine made with only the best ingredients. He continues to make everything from scratch, something that few chefs take the time to do today.
Patti handles the operations side of the business, ensuring that every event runs seamlessly. “We want our clients to enjoy their own party or event, so we take care of everything from start to finish. We love to hear our clients say, ‘You made this so easy for me.’ That’s our goal – to deliver an exceptional culinary experience our clients won’t soon forget.”
